Current Projects:
Studies in the kidney DGF population. I am interested in acute kidney injury after non-renal solid organ transplantation, and would like to investigate the relationship of APPs as practitioners on the interdisciplinary healthcare team. At this time, my biggest project is cultivating a vibrant and thriving APP Community of Practice in collaboration with our Executive Committee. We are exploring the current state of practice of APPs in transplantation.
What made you decide to work in transplantation?:
I was first exposed to abdominal transplant while working on my master’s degree in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. I was working in dialysis at the time and discovered kidney transplant was a better mode of renal replacement therapy for end stage kidney disease.
What do you find to be the most valuable aspect of your work?:
I love the complex management of kidney or other solid organ transplant patients with AKI, in collaboration with the multiple teams caring for these patients including transplant surgery, cardiology, hepatology and pulmonology, and how these patients’ lives are changed with improved organ function.
How have you served AST?:
I have been on the Membership Committee. Currently, I am the inaugural chair of the Advance Practice Provider Community of Practice. My involvement in AST has been a great learning experience and I hope to encourage more APPs to become involved with AST.
Fun Facts:
I like to participate in disaster response mission trips to help with reconstruction after natural disasters, within the continental United States and Puerto Rico.
